General Feature


As one of Thailand's lower northeast provinces, Sisaket is located 515 kms (by train) or 600 kms (by car) away from Bangkok and 60 kms from the Ubon Ratchathani International Airport. The Province covers an area of 8,839 sq.kms.


Administration

Sisaket is administratively divided into 20 districts (Amphur) and two subdistricts (King-amphur), namely Amphur Muang, Amphur Kantharalak, Amphur Kanthararom, Amphur Uthumporn Phisai, Amphur Ra Si Salai, Amphur Khukhan, Amphur Khun Han, Amphur Phrai Bung, Amphur Prang Ku, Amphur Sri Rattana, Amphur Huai Thab Than, Amphur Yang Chum Noi, Amphur Non Khun, Amphur Nam Kliang, Amphur Wang Hin, Amphur Bung Bun, Amphur Phu Sing, Amphur Muang Chan, Amphur Benchalak, Amphur Phayu, Amphur Phayu, King-Amphur Pho Sri Suwan and King-Amphur Sila Lat.

Boundary

North
next  to  Yasothon and Roi Et.
South next  to  Cambodia (with the Phanom Dong Rak Mountain Ranges acting as a borderline)
West next  to  Surin.
East next  to  Ubon Ratchathani.


Topography

The topography of Sisaket features highlands sloping north until the Moon River, basin plains in the north, highlands close to the Phanom Dong Rak Mountain Ranges in the south. The province is geographically divided into two parts, the north and the south, by the Moon River which flows through Amphur Rasri Salai, Amphur Muang Sisaket, Amphur Kanthararom and Amphur Yang Chum Noi. In the northern part lie grassy fields, while the southern part comprises mountainous forests in Amphur Kantharalak, Amphur Khun Han, Amphur Khukhan with the Phanom Dong Rak Mountain Ranges acting as a 85-km borderline between Thailand an Cambodia. Apart from the Moon River, Sisaket is blessed with mountain streams originating from the Phanom Dong Rak Mountain Ranges and flowing into the Moon River, such as Huai (stream) Samran, Huai Nua, Huai Khayung, Huai Tha and Huai Thab Than.

Climate
Dry and very hot in the summer. Windy and very cold in the winter. Influenced by northern wind from China.
Economic Factor

Forestry :
Fertile tropical forests are normally located in Amphur Khukhan, Amphur Khun Han and Amphur Kantharalak.
Livertock :
Pig and chicken formings are outstanding, but only as a secondary source of incomes.
Paddy rice farming :
Paddy and gluneous rice farming is widely found in the province, not only for consumption, but for sale.
Feshery : The Moon River including mountain streams, natural ponds and irrigation dams are major sources of fishing.
Industry : Industrial factories found in Sisaket include timber mills, jute mills, paddy rice mills, cassava mills, ice-making plants and stone-grinding mills. The family industries are silk cloth weaving, cotton weaving, reed mat weaving, loom making, wood carving, metal works, gifts making, palm leaf basket and dyeing.
Commerce : Local products and agricultural produces are directly sold in markets mostly located in town and puplic healths.
